And unlike retail chains, we are a private, locally and doctor-owned, professional practice.
Douglas L. Totten, OD, MBA
Dr. Totten graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1985 and was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year in 2018.
He serves on various committees for the profession including being chair of the American Optometric Association’s Ethics and Values Committee. He has also been involved working on projects to bring eye care to those in need in Honduras and Mexico. He is thrilled to be in practice with his daughter Julia, his niece Hannah, his good friend in Ben, and a tremendous staff.
Benjamin Sikkenga, OD
Ben is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association, and the West Michigan Optometric Association. He enjoys spending time with his wife Courtney and their twin boys, Archer and Charles. Ben And Courtney have lived in Fremont since 2014 and have fallen in love with Newaygo County where they enjoy many community events and are active with their church. Ben also enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf and hockey.
Julia Totten, OD
Dr. Julia Totten is a 2020 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and earned her OD degree with high distinction and honors. She has a passion for private practice and was the president of the Michigan Optometric Student Private Practice Association while attending MCO. She earned her bachelor degree in biomedical science at Grand Valley State University in 2016.
In addition to completing externships at Henry Ford Optimeyes in West Bloomfield, Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, and the Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, she has also worked in Mexico and Honduras bringing eye care to people in remote populations. She enjoys reading, boating, playing tennis and being with animals. She also enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her husband James who is also an optometrist. Julia is excited to join the family practice and work alongside her father, cousin Hannah, and colleague Ben Sikkenga.
Great place! Everyone there is very professional and did an excellent job helping and explaining my exam results and walked me through getting my 1st pair of glasses. Dr. Totten and his staff are 1st class and I would recommend them to anyone needing Optometry services!
