Our Doctors
Julia Totten, OD
Dr. Julia Totten is a 2020 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and earned her OD degree with high distinction and honors. She has a passion for private practice and was the president of the Michigan Optometric Student Private Practice Association while attending MCO. She earned her bachelor degree in biomedical science at Grand Valley State University in 2016.
In addition to completing externships at Henry Ford Optimeyes in West Bloomfield, Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, and the Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, she has also worked in Mexico and Honduras bringing eye care to people in remote populations. She enjoys reading, boating, and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband James who is also an optometrist, are enjoying parenthood with their daughter Sadie born in 2023. Julia is an owner in the practice and works alongside her father, cousin Hannah, and colleagues Ben Sikkenga and Bill Meengs.
Ben Sikkenga, OD
Dr. Sikkenga graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 2018 with distinction and was an award recipient of the GP Lens Institute Excellence in specialty lens fitting. He completed internships at the Detroit VA Medical Center, Cherry Health in Grand Rapids and University Eye Center in Big Rapids.
He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association and the West Michigan Optometric Association. He enjoys spending time with his wife Courtney, their twin boys, Archer and Charles, and daughter Clara. They enjoy the many community activities available in Newaygo County. Ben also enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf and hockey. He is honored to be in practice with such outstanding doctors and great people.
Hannah Totten, OD
Proud graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry with High Distinction and Honors. Prior to and during optometry school, she obtained a vast knowledge in eyecare with 8+ years experience working as an optician, scribe, and technician.
Dr. Hannah Totten easily connects with patients of all ages with her gentle and friendly personality. Dr. Totten married her husband, Zach, in November 2018 and welcomed their first child, daughter Maya, in May of 2021.
She enjoys skiing, boating, sailing, hiking, golfing, playing tennis, and traveling with her husband- especially to National Parks.
Once you meet Dr. Hannah Totten, you will instantly feel calm with her warm and genuine personality.
Bill Meengs, OD
Douglas L. Totten, OD, MBA
Although Dr. Totten is now retired and no longer regularly sees patients, you may occasionally see him filling in for other doctors.
Dr. Totten graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1985 and was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year in 2018.
He serves on various committees for the profession including being chair of the American Optometric Association’s Ethics and Values Committee. He is proud to have grown married children and to be a new grandparent. He is thrilled to practice with his daughter Julia, niece Hannah, and colleagues Ben Sikkenga and Bill Meengs.
