With our team of friendly and well trained and certified staff, Dr. Totten and Dr. Sikkenga strive to provide a high level of clinical care and customer service to our patients.
And unlike retail chains, we are a private, locally and doctor-owned, professional practice.
Our Doctors

Julia Totten, OD
Dr. Julia Totten is a 2020 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and earned her OD degree with high distinction and honors. She has a passion for private practice and was the president of the Michigan Optometric Student Private Practice Association while attending MCO. She earned her bachelor degree in biomedical science at Grand Valley State University in 2016.
In addition to completing externships at Henry Ford Optimeyes in West Bloomfield, Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, and the Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, she has also worked in Mexico and Honduras bringing eye care to people in remote populations. She enjoys camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband James who is also an optometrist, have a daughter Sadie and son Anderson. Julia is an owner in the practice and proud to carry on the legacy of the practice her father has built.

Bill Meengs, OD
Dr. William (Bill) Meengs received his doctorate from The Michigan College of Optometry in 2018, graduating with distinction. He completed clinical rotations at Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, Michigan State Neuro-Ophthalmology in Lansing, and the Wyoming VA in Grand Rapids.
Dr. Bill is a West Michigan native. When he is not working, he can be found on the golf course in the summer and the ski slopes in the winter.
He and his wife Jessica are blessed with three daughters – Emma, Ivy, and Lola, and reside in Spring Lake. They are active in their church at Harvest Bible Chapel.
Dr. Bill is proud to practice alongside such skilled colleagues and to continue to serve this community.

Douglas L. Totten, OD, MBA
Although Dr. Totten is now retired and no longer regularly sees patients, you may occasionally see him filling in for other doctors.
Dr. Totten graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1985 and was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year in 2018.
He serves on various committees for the profession including being chair of the American Optometric Association’s Ethics and Values Committee. He is proud to have grown married children and to be a new grandparent. He is thrilled to practice with his daughter Julia, niece Hannah, and colleagues Ben Sikkenga and Bill Meengs.

Garrison Farr, OD
Dr. Garrison Farr received his doctorate from The Michigan College of Optometry in 2026, graduating with high distinction. He completed clinical rotations at The Michigan College of Optometry in Big Rapids, Pleasant Optics Group in Mount Pleasant, and the Wyoming VA in Grand Rapids.
Dr. Garrison Farr is a Muskegon native, and looks forward to continuing to serve the eyecare needs of his community.
In the summer, Dr. Garrison can be found on the golf course, at the beach, or around a campfire. During the winters he can be found on the ice playing hockey or sledding with friends. In his free time he likes to spend time with friends and family, or his Siamese cat, Gizmo.
Dr. Garrison is proud to practice alongside such skilled colleagues and to continue to serve this community.
Great place! Everyone there is very professional and did an excellent job helping and explaining my exam results and walked me through getting my 1st pair of glasses. Dr. Totten and his staff are 1st class and I would recommend them to anyone needing Optometry services!
